Jordan Bridge and Pioneer Park PDF  | Print |

Jordan Bridge - Statyon, OregonJordan bridge sits in Stayton's Pioneer Park.  The original structure was built in 1937.

Prior to 1986, the Jordan Bridge spanned Thomas Creek near the hamlet of Jordan - the location of a dam, a cheese factory, two mills and a general store.

When the Linn County Road Department announced that it was going to replace the bridge with a modern span, residents of Stayton asked if they could take title to the structure.  The old bridge was painstakingly dismantled and moved to Pioneer Park, where it was rebuilt spanning the Salem Power Canal.

The effort took two years with a dedication ceremony in June of 1988.

On December 20 of 1994 the bridge burned after Christmas lights ingnited the roof.

Stayton residents banded together, raising funds to rebuild the structure, and the newly rebuilt bridge was dedicated in Septemeber of 1998.

The Jordon bridge is Howe Truss design spanning 90 feet.  Today it is a popular attraction in Pioneer Park.  It is not uncommon to see it used for wedding ceremonies...
